The Aim of the Game
There are ten Battleships hidden in
a ten by ten grid of one hundred squares.
At the end of each row and
column is a number that tells you how many squares in that row or column
is occupied.
Each ship is always separated from any nearby ships
by at least one square of water.
Your task is find where the Battleships they
are through logical deduction.
Controls

     |
To set a square on the grid, click on a shape from the menu in the corner of the
screen. The square on the menu will be highlighted, and then you can click
on the grid to set the squares to that shape.
Choose the white square when you don't know what shape a grid cell contains.
Click on the empty water at the top of the menu to choose Water.
When you have successfully identified all of the Battleships, you have won the game. |
|
The ship counter tells you how many ships are still to be found, and how long they
are.
From the example, you can see that there is only one singlular (round) ship to be
found. There are three two-square-long ships and two three-square ships.
The longest ship is four squares in length, and that is still to be found as well. |
Hints
Start a new game by eliminating all grid cells on lines that are entirely unoccupied.
Then have a think about the shapes that are revealed right at the start. It's surprising
how many further grid cells you can eliminate.
The longest battleship is four squares in length. Clearly only a line on the grid
with four or more occupied squares can contain the longest battleship. So look at
the grid carefully - There may be only one place that the longest battleship can
go.
If you're stuck, go back and look carefully at the number at the end of each line,
and think about what you can deduce about each grid cell on that line. If you know
that a square is occupied, this can help you solve the puzzle, even if you don't
know exactly what shape it is occupied with.
Don't be temped to fill in a grid cell unless you have conclusively proved which
shape goes there. In Sudoku Battleships it is never necessary to just guess which
shape goes where, although you may need to think about different possibilities until
you have eliminated the ones that just can't work.
Finally, don't be afraid to restart a game if things go wrong, or you feel the need
to clear your mind. Or come back to later with a fresh perspective
